Boston Accents playlist 09.25.11: The Faux, Eyes Like Knives, Kill Screens, Dirty Virgins, Rio Bravo, The Pomps, Stereo Telescope+

Here is tonight's Boston Accents playlist, and it's a fucking doozy. We kicked it off with a double shot of THE FAUX, then rolled back to the early-'00s for some post-millennial garage rock ruckus, gave some love to the Granite State, and debuted a brand new STEREO TELESCOPE remix from DJ DIE YOUNG, which got finished roughly 16 minutes before I entered it into the WFNX library. It's how we roll...

THE FAUX, “Synthetic Hearts” + “Love Lust Lies” -- Both tracks from the self-titled 2003 EP off Tarantula Records. It still sounds like the future. RIP Kirsten Malone

THE KILL SCREENS, “Flying Free” -- Off new record Science Fiction Movie, which arrived just this week to the WFNX HQ. Nice mid-'90s German synthpop vibe, reminds me of classic A Different Drum stuff.

LINDSEY STARR, “Love And Death In The City” -- Just played an WFNX show at Church with Company of Thieves, will perform as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the 9th annual Pill Halloween Show on October 28.

THE ORGAN BEATS, “Stay The Night” -- New song from the Mishmash double A Side single, dropped earlier this month on Bandcamp. The 'Beats are opening Somerville's new live music venue, Radio, on October 7 with the Rationales and John Powhida International Airport.

EYES LIKE KNIVES, “High Rise” -- Post-millennial modern classic, from maybe the finest-named Boston band of the past 20 years, off the Lonesome Recordings Vol. 1 comp from 2004. Andre Obin may or may not have played bass on this one.

READ YELLOW, “The Association” -- Pre-Bodega Girls band from Even Kenney, and another ripper off that same Lonesome compilation, which also featured Elgin James, the Glow, Piebald, and...

DAMN PERSONALS, “Standing Still In The USA” -- From the 2002 album of the same name, which this weekend was put up on Facebook for free download, all in celebration of the Personals’ reunion gig October 20 at Webster Hall in New York City. How bout a local show, bro?

THE DIRTY VIRGINS, “I Like You” -- Allston band playing dirty virginal rock and roll, off this summer's Whiskey Dick EP, which I may or may not be allowed to say on the air.

GUILLERMO SEXO, “Neon Lights” -- About to head out on tour, and their Allston-shot music video is getting love from the NME!

FUTURE CARNIVORES, “(And You Call Yourself A) Carnivore” – Bo Barringer of MEandJOANCOLLINS teams up with Noelle Dorsey and Reuben Bettsak of Guillermo Sexo to play sleek, sexy, somewhat-minimal synthpop

THE CINNAMON FUZZ, “In Your Hands” – One of two new tracks on next month’s Cruise of the Century re-boot, playing the Pill on October 14 to celebrate. Really, one of the best Boston songs of the year. Fucking epic new wave track, produced by Anthony J. Resta.

THE POMPS, “Icepack!” – New ska project from dudes in the Sterns, New Collisions and Have Nots. Love the line about the high school line drive hitter making the pros. Top songwriting here, even if you're not a ska fan.

HOUR 2: NEW HAMPSHIRE MINI-SET!

WATER MOCCASINS, “Gone” -- Solo project out of Dover, off the pretty fantastic Broken Tone EP, with family ties to Rachel of MMOSS. #GraniteState

RIO BRAVO, “Slow Pill" -- Our pick this summer as Best New Band in NH for our 50 Bands 50 States feature. Get the album for free here – was gonna play “Feel” but Rachel Bacon yells “fuck” in it.

FELIX & VOLCANO, “Got Luv Fer Now” -- Former Phoenix music intern writes a great song, recorded at the Haunted Casino in Allston. Fun fact: When the producer asked what the song was called, Sam Ueda remarked "Got Love... for now..." Name stuck.  #GraniteState

GAMBLE AND BURKE, “Lay Low” – Breaking up the NH love with a Worcester dance-pop duo; hotttt jam, these dudes should play with SPF5000. Boom!

STEREO TELESCOPE, “Lighthouse (DJ Die Young Remix)” -- WORLD PREMIERE, you can get it online tomorrow but you heard it here first. DJ Die Young is now in the band. Carl Lavin (Great Scott) remarked to me earlier, that this acquisition could do for Stereo Telescope what drummer DJ Etan did for Passion Pit. #REALTALK

GENTLEMEN HALL, “Take Me Under” -- Our rising Boston heroes just dropped a new video last week featuring Carmen O’Connor of Bodega Girls.

THE NEW HIGHWAY HYMNAL, “Blackened Hands” -- Playing tonight at Great Scott for a Pelly Twins Presents show with Big Nils and others, Precinct tells me the Hymnals will set up for an October residency at the Union Square music venue.

THE FAGETTES, “Mystery Pills” -- Just recorded two new songs, expect them out this winter. The 'Guettes boys and girls are playing Great Scott this Wednesday with Hallelujah the Hills and Earthquake Party.

THE SUSAN CONSTANT, “Runner” – Buttoned-down Boston-based indie rock quintet playing a show Friday at T.T. The Bear's with the Fatal Flaw and Appreciation Post.

MEAN CREEK, “No One Has To Know” – Boston's finest, just played a killer gig with Yuck at T.T.'s last week. Recording new material as I type.

VIVA VIVA, “Hailing a Cab In Hell” – New track off upcoming EP What’s the Kim Deal?, due sometime around November.

DOOMSTAR!, “Rainbow Bloodsucker” -- Hey Doomzy y u break up?!

THE DECEMBER SOUND, “Kill Me Before I Kill You”-- Nearly seven minutes of pure mid-'00s sonic skygaze beatdown. Here, stare at this!

And check in with us next Sunday at 8pm, same Boston time, same Boston channel. 101.7 FM, wfnx.net. xo
