"Rehearsal at Theresienstadt, 1944"

This event occurs in the past, Jan 9 2011
465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA   (view map)

As our venerable classical critic, Lloyd Schwartz, detailed in last week’s issue, this winter is a spectacular one for opera. Boston Lyric Opera’s Emperor of Atlantis, or Death Quits — a collaboration between composer Viktor Ullmann and poet Frantisek Petr Kien at the Theresienstadt (a/k/a Terezín) prison camp — is one such highlight. In “Rehearsal at Theresienstadt, 1944,” part of the Signature Series collaboration between BLO and the Museum of Fine Arts, conductor Steven Lipsitt, stage director David Schweizer, composer Richard Beaudoin (who created the BLO-commissioned prologue The After-Image), and cast members will discuss the opera’s history and their upcoming performance. They’ll also preview excerpts of both the original and Beaudoin’s new work.

One-hour roundtable discussion with conductor Steven Lipsitt, stage director David Schweizer, and composer Richard Beaudoin
