For his congenial, quietly hagiographic film biography of Philip Glass, cinematographer/director Scott Hicks (Shine) follows the visionary composer for 14 months around the world, taking in opera and film-score gigs; he also had access to Glass’s friends, family, and spiritual mentors. Among the on-camera presences: Ravi Shankar, Woody Allen, Errol Morris, Chuck Close. Glass comes off as a likable, unassuming presence and also a bit of an enigma. What’s his relation to his odd older son, who is briefly interviewed?
