You’d think Troy Duffy would have learned something in the decade since he blew his golden ticket with The Boondock Saints. The opening narration of his sequel (for you, inexplicably rabid fans!) goes on about “doers” and “talkers,” concluding, “All the rest is bullshit.”
If you’ve seen Overnight, the 2003 documentary that chronicled Duffy’s rise and fall, you know he’s a BIG talker. His latest assault on basic filmmaking begins when a Boston priest is murdered by someone using the MO of the Saints (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus).
That compels the brothers to come out of exile in Ireland and return to Toronto — excuse me, Boston — to resume their guns-blazing, shades-wearing, cigarette-smoking musical montages, which feature a new sidekick, Romeo the “greasy spic” (Clifton Collins Jr.). A non-disclosure agreement I signed doesn’t preclude me from concluding that this — and all the rest — is bullshit.
