Leslie West is known as a guitar man, but on the latest album by his long-time band Mountain, vocals are every bit as crucial. Original Mountain drummer Corky Laing joins West for this collection of timely Dylan covers — tunes, as the title suggests, that deal with the current state of affairs in the world, even if they were written decades ago, when a different war was weighing on the conscience of Americans. The title track has Ozzy Osbourne growling “When the death count gets higher/You hide in your mansion.” Another highlight brings Allman Brother/Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes to the mic for a version of “Serve Somebody.” And West puts down his electric for an acoustic to run through “Blowin’ in the Wind,” which he also graces with lead vocals. Laing’s drum-and-vocal solo version of “Like a Rolling Stone” is the album’s only real misstep.
