It's becoming a boutique crime among pro jocks, replacing perhaps the "passing bad checks to buy diamond necklaces" crime that was more popular in the Terry Glenn/Andre "Bad Moon" Rison days. Aside from Walker, Verba, and Charles Barkley, former Patriots running back LaMont Jordan was also in hot water this year for his $20,000 debt. And former Yankees pitcher Shawn Chacon was picked up on his own unpaid-gambling-debt charges; he apparently wrote three bad checks of $50,000 apiece to Caesar's Palace.
Sad stuff. Give Verba four points — it's hard to blame a fat, retired lineman for chasing a little excitement.

- Taser bait
The clock keeps ticking down toward the inevitable first Tasered-athlete fatality. The fact that it hasn't happened yet is just a statistical anomaly, because two things continue to occur with regularity: major-college and pro jocks keep getting Tasered in late-night incidents, while an unluckier group of ordinary non-jocks keep dying from police Taserings.
