Walking into Dinesh D'Souza and John Sullivan's political hatchet job, adapted from D'Souza's nonfiction (and non-fact) books, The Roots of Obama's Rage and Obama's America: Unmaking the American Dream, I overheard a woman exiting an earlier showing, breathlessly informing someone on her cell phone that "it's not a movie — it's a documentary!" While I can't quite fathom the distinction, I can report that the unsubstantiated mess isn't much of a movie or a documentary. Still, that hasn't stopped it from getting asses into seats. Lots of white, racist, homophobic asses. So, why were there only four other people at the sermon that I attended? Maybe it was because Ann Romney's RNC speech was about to begin. Those lucky enough to make the screening took in the film's dubious thesis, that our president is secretly his father's son: an anti-colonial, radical socialist. D'Souza's damning proof? Obama's own autobiography. Oh, that Barack! A real Manchurian candidate, that one.
