As much as I love a solid song or a monstrous riff, I will always tip my hat to those at the fringes of the music world who spend their hours unraveling the sweater of the musical lexicon by showing us that songs are nothing but patched together sounds fused to elicit a spectral response in the listener's cerebellum.
Christopher Dexter Greenspan, a/k/a oOoOO, makes music wispy enough to float through a très chic happy hour with nary a spilled drink, all the while weaving enough moods and themes in this debut EP to keep the whole thing from joining with the æther. From the lounge-party-on-acid-with-melting-eyes slo-mo drag of "Sedsumting" to the lost-in-the-woods cricket chirp of "Mumbai" to "Hearts" (with its sonic approximation of Giorgio Moroder assaulting the Twin Peaks theme while zooming by on a Nagel-print-pink Miami Vice cigarette boat), oOoOO covers a lot of emotional territory without ever presenting any actual songs.
It's more like the proverbial plastic bag floating on the wind, a billow of shifting moods and feelings. In a nutshell: sometimes it's oOoOO as in "Oh," and sometimes it's more of a spooky "Oooh!"
