MOSS MOUNTAIN PROJECT, a dark and mysterious alt-country outfit, will be releasing Catfish Grouper Snapper December 16 at SPACE, despite earlier reports that it might happen in October. It was recorded for about $400 on a PC in somebody’s basement, but we’ve got an early copy and you’d never know. Sounds like at least $500.
KATRINA ABRAMO, on whom the “Sibilance” staff will admit to having a bit of a crush (well, on her voice, anyway), will be the next release coming from the Cat & Mouse crew. We don’t have a title yet, but it’s a full-length and will be released with a show at Acoustic Coffee (natch) December 9. She’ll be backed by FRANK HOPKINS, MATT HANSEN, and JOE GOUZIE.
ZACH ROMANOFF, most recently of STARS LOOK DOWN and MAITREYA, but now out on his own as a solo artist, reports being very close to done with a five-song EP he’s recording with JON WYMAN over at the Halo. Look for a release in late November.
JAKE ROCHE, former JEREMIAH FREED guitarist, has finished up a solo album with JON WYMAN that features TONY MCNABOE (most recently backing RAY LAMONTAGNE on tour) on drums and keyboards and HUTCH HEELAN on bass (PETE KILPATRICK SUPERGROUP). Roche calls the new works “a million miles away from what I did with Jeremiah Freed.” He’s looking to move back to Portland full-time and has plans for a late-November release show.
