In Sam Garbarski’s improbable British melodrama, chanteuse Marianne Faithfull plays a working-class granny who takes work in a Soho sex parlor in order to pay for a grandson’s expensive operation. Maggie’s new employment: sitting behind a screen and, through a glory hole, administering anonymous hand jobs to the horny clientele. She’s talented: the blokes queue up, and she’s given the come-on name Irina Palm. Faithfull is okay with little to do, and the splendid Serbian actor Miki Manojlovic is effective as the manager/owner of Sexy World. But nothing here is particularly believable, and that includes their slowly developing evening-of-the-day romance.
