RECORD LABEL: Warner Bros.WHY THEM? A white dwarf is a small star composed primarily of electron-degenerate matter, according to the Wik-Wik. We can’t confirm that Stardeath & White Dwarfs are degenerates, but we do know that three-fourths of the quartet were (until recently) the backbone of fellow Oklahomans the Flaming Lips’ road crew. And we can say with some authority that this neo-prog-rock outfit is heavier than any of the Flaming Lips gear, anchoring their own unique brand of psyche-delic pop with a wicked, thumping bass. Imagine a Northwest Passage between King Crimson and OutKast and you’ll have a sense of what these guys have discovered.
BONUS BITS! Collaborating with the Flaming Lips, Stardeath recorded an electrifying version of Madonna’s “Borderline” (with a kickass video, too). Head Dwarf Dennis Coyne is the also nephew of lead Lip Wayne Coyne.
