St. Paul backs off RNC journos--corrected!
According to the Minnesota Independent, my hometown won't be prosecuting those journalists who were charged with "presence at an unlawful assembly" during the course of covering the Republican National Convention.
The Independent also reports that St. Paul won't be charging* Democracy Now's Amy Goodman, Nicole Salazar, and Sharif Abdel Kouddous. According to city attorney John Choi, that's "because he facts and circumstances related to Amy Goodman fell
outside of our charging policy for obstruction of legal process cases."
I'm no attorney, but based on the interview I did with Goodman and Salazar during the RNC, I'd say that's legalese for "because the charges against them were utterly bogus.
*CORRECTION: I originally wrote that charges against Goodman, et al. had been "dropped." In fact, while the trio were cited, they were never formally charged. I apologize for the error.
