The Globe's new moneymaking squad
A tipster tells DQM that the Globe has formed a "New Revenue Team"--aimed, as the name suggests--at finding new ways for the paper to make money.
The NRT has 13 members, including managing editor Caleb Solomon and Boston.com bigwig Bob Kempf. Apparently, though, publisher Steve Ainsley wants as many people as possible involved in the new-revenue push: his memo speaks of an "incentive plan that pays out an increasing amount as an idea moves through the successive phases of development." No word on what kind of $$$ we're talking about, however.
Here's Ainsley's memo in its entirey:
-----
Dear Colleagues –
Developing new products is an important part of our strategy. That’s why
I’m very pleased to officially announce that we have recently created a
“New Revenue Team” whose job it is to develop revenue-generating ideas into
marketable products and services that will have a significant return.
The team will explore opportunities in print, digital, services, or new
businesses. Members of the team represent most functions within the Globe
and Boston.com/Digital. The team is being led by Lucy Bartholomay,
managing director/product innovation, and Jason Kissell, executive
director/advertising strategy. They will meet quarterly with the Senior
Management Team to review proposals and status.
All employees are welcome to submit ideas for generating revenue, and the
team has developed an incentive plan that pays out an increasing amount as
an idea moves through the successive phases of development. You can
download a submission form (“Idea Resume”) and review the incentive plan on
Compass (click on Idea Resume button) ...
