If not for Brad Pitt and Matt Damon as a pair of nihilist, latently gay krill, George Miller's sequel to his 2006 hit might have been as much fun as being tap-danced to death by thousands of Emperor penguins, which is how the film begins. Apparently Mumble (Elijah Wood), the ostracized freak from the original, has converted the masses to his terpsichorean ways. He leads them in a soft shoe bit reminiscent of the crow number in Song of the South. That and Mumble's unctuously adorable fledgling Erik (Ava Acres) are reason enough to put an end to the colony, and an iceberg obliges by smashing into their nesting ground and isolating it from the sea. Lovely to look at despite the 3D, and sometimes bordering on the psychedelic, this crack-brained morality tale blends the sublimely weird and the cloyingly awful as it preaches once again the paradox that you should be true to yourself as long as you are in step with everyone else.
