Hey y'all, miss me? Well I sure as fuck missed you guys, and am thrilled to be back hosting BOSTON ACCENTS on the relaunched WFNX.com. Today's show was a big one -- it kickstarts a new era of programming, where we devote 60 minutes each day to new music from around New England, so join me here in the Phoenix newsroom every day from 5 to 6pm on the WFNX stream as we bounce around Massachusetts and ever so slightly beyond, bringing you the best in rock, pop and electronic music. Here's out first playlist -- 16 new jams I couldn't wait to spin.
WESTERN EDUCATION “All I Am” -- One of my absolutely favorite tracks of not only the season, but all of 2012. And it comes out of Lowell. Expect great things in the very near future from this rock quartet, and you can buy the new single over on the Bandcamp. Worth the buck.
BLACK LIGHT DINNER PARTY “Length Of Lace” -- Brand new track from a band I broke not only here on WFNX, but even before then on my music blog, Vanyaland. They performed the packed-out Night 3 of the BA Funeral Party back in July with Gentlemen Hall, Bearstronaut, and Stereo Telescope.
YOUNG LONDON “Broken” -- World debut from the electro-pop duo nominated we put on the cover of the Phoenix back in January. Their recent single "Call My Name" tonight was nominated for Song Of The Year in the 2012 Boston Music Awards.
GLASS TEETH “The Light” -- Sinister new joint from one of the best electronic music producers and DJs in Boston; this was included on the MISHKA Grim Harvest Halloween mixtape. Nominated for Electronic Artist of the Year in the 2012 BMAs.
MEAN CREEK “Do You Know?” -- Lead track off new record Youth Companion and my favorite on the album, a track they open up most shows with. Mean Creek are currently on tour with Counting Crows.
ANIMAL TALK “Mama Was A Teenage Rocker” -- Slick new joint from Boston indie rock quartet that we debuted in the Phoenix last month; has a nice Cheap Trick vibe to it.
SIDEWALK DRIVER “Dancing With Her Friends” -- By request, going back to 2009 off the glam band's For All The Girls And Boys record; frontman Tad McKitterick nominated for Male Vocalist if the Year in the 2012 BMAs. Next show, I believe, is December 14 at Brighton Music Hall.
WHITE DYNOMITE “White Dynomite” -- By request, some fiery garage rock in white suits banging straight outta Allston.
POTTY MOUTH “Dog Song” -- Incredible Northampton garage rock band with an EP, Sun Damage, so good that THREE labels agreed to release it over the summer. Liz Pelly featured them in the PHX in July.
DARLING PET MUNKEE “Hypno-Coin” -- New jam off the spooky franken-band's new record You Better Believe It, out TONIGHT at the Brighton Music Hall's Squidhouse of Horror headlined by Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys. Moe Pope also performing and he fucking holds court.
CREATUROS “James Day Milk Shake” -- Lead track off the Cambridge trio's Swampp Thingg cassette, which had its release party rained out Monday night by Hurricane Sandy Pants. Included on the PHX Halloween Playlist.
THE BYNARS “Haunted House” -- Also featured on our Halloween Playlist, the Bynars are at Great Scott on November 15 with the Tins, Camden, and J/Q.
THE HUSH NOW “The Flapper” -- Keeping with the PHX Playlist theme, the third Halloween song from this Boston quintet in as many years.
THE DEVILS TWINS “What’s With The Blood On Your Shirt” -- Another off our mix, sorry, it's topical.
MARISSA NADLER “Devil Town” -- The Newton folk singer recorded this cover of Daniel Johnston's a capella track from 1990 and released it herself earlier today. Get it, and more deets, here on On The Download.
THE ORGAN BEATS “Living Without You” -- The first ever Boston Accents Song of the Day (BASD), where a Boston song gets added to regular rotation ALL DAY. The Beats release Golden Heart tomorrow night at TT The Bear's on a killer bill with Mellow Bravo, the Appreciation Post, and the Fatal Flaw.
Thanks for listening. See you tomorrow; Pretty & Nice will be in the studio and we'll preview Homegrown Fest this weekend in Cambridge. As always, I can be reached at michael[a]phx.com, and I'm on Twitter @vMichaelv
