The whole world is watching: Boston filmmaker releases incendiary #OccupyBoston doc of BPD crackdown

 

Boston Phoenix readers already know MIKE GILL: he shot a fantastic labor-of-love documentary about beloved indie heroes PIEBALD, his music videos have been voted as Best-in-Boston in our annual readers' poll, and he's working on a documentary about legendary Boston impressario BILLY RUANE. So when we ran into him late Monday night near Dewey Square -- as Boston police began to surround the Occupy Boston protesters -- we knew he'd get great footage. 

But still, we didn't have any idea he'd make something this great.

Earlier this evening, Gill released "WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE: THE VIEW FROM OCCUPY BOSTON," a quickly-edited 10-minute documentary filmed the night the cops busted up the second encampment on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. 

If you want to know what it was like to be in camp on Monday night -- as the Occupants planned strategy and held fast to each other, as protesters appealed to the consciece of the police, and ultimately as the cops came crashing into the camp, with the BPD's Superintendent-in-Chief Dan Linskey screaming at his officers to hold the line and drive the marchers into the ground or into the streets -- then watch this.

And as the NYPD plans to clear #OccupyWallStreet, let's hope this scenario isn't repeated again in New York tomorrow morning:
